Trek through the forest to the mountain walking easily over the snow blanket with snowshoes that easily adapt to your shoes.

Winter Trekking Bariloche Patagonia Season: July 1st to September 30th. Before and after these dates, departures will depend on the amount of snowfall of each particular winter.

Starting / Ending city: San Carlos de Bariloche

Duration: 5 days, 4 nights.

Difficulty: Previous trekking experience in over 4-hour treks is required to be part of this program. Minimum required age for the program is 12 years (always provided there is previous trekking experience in over 4-hour treks) The maximum group size is parties of 12; the minimum, 5 per guide. .

Itinerary:

Day 1:
Winter Trekking Bariloche Patagonia
We meet you at the bus terminal (or airport) and take you to a rural property located in Arroyo del Medio where our trek starts. We head up to Cerro Estratos to later walk down to the valley called Valle de los Perdidos (Valley of the Lost) . After a picnic lunch we resume our trek down to Refugio Neumeyer, a rustic mountain lodge in Challhuaco valley, where we enjoy an afternoon tea. We will also dine and stay there overnight.

Day 2:
Neumeyer mountain hut - Challhuaco valley - Bariloche ArgentinaWe get up in the morning and, after breakfast, we set off to try to reach the summit of Cerro Challhuaco (2040 meters above sea level). This mountaintop affords a spectacular view of mounts Blanco and Ñireco and of Catedral's main needle. After a picnic lunch, we head back to Refugio Neumeyer to get a well-earned rest. We dine and sleep at the refugio.

Day 3:
After breakfast, we get ready for some wonderful trekking towards Ñirihuau river. Our trip starts up into the woods to later descent towards the valley of Arroyo Tristeza. As we go up, we enjoy a magnificent view of mounts Challhuaco and Blanco. Once we reach Arroyo Tristeza we eat our picnic lunch and continue along the creek until meeting Río Ñirihuau, the place where we will camp at night. The campsite is furnished with tents and an x-large common dining tent.

Day 4:
snowshoeing Bariloche Patagonia ArgentinaThere's no need to hurry this morning. After breakfast we trek around the Río Ñirihuau area. At noon we go back to the campsite for lunch. After our picnic lunch, a vehicle picks us up to go back to Bariloche city. Overnight accommodation is provided at a hostel.

Day 5:

A vehicle drives trekkers to the point of departure. (Bus terminal or airport). .


Clothing and gear suggestions:
small backpack (40 liters); sleeping bag, a pair of durable trekking boots (fit for snow) and a replacement pair; warm clothing, waterproof shells (jackets, pants & gaiters); warm cap or hat; gloves; UV-filter sunglasses; sun screen; small flashlight, water bottle or similar liquid container, plastic bags.

Package includes: Transportation for all transfers. Expert trekking guide at all times. Lodging in the refugio (two nights), primitive camping (one night), and accommodation in a city hostel (one night). (The dinner of the last day is not included). Regarding trekking gear, we provide snowshoes and poles. Refugio Neumeyer, a rustic mountain lodge which belongs to the official local mountain club (Club Andino Bariloche - CAB) is located in Challhuaco valley. Amenities include bathroom facilities, showers, power generator, dining room and bedroom with "barracks-type" beds with mattresses on which you lay down in your own sleeping bag. The last night, accommodation is provided at a hostel in the city. All meals, from lunch on day 1 to lunch on day 4. Lunch consists of a picnic lunch with drink and dessert.

Package does not include: Last-day dinner at hostel. Transportation form place of origin to Bariloche and back. Bottled/canned drinks. Medical or any other kind of insurance.

Guides: The program begins and ends in a given place and at a given time. The group will be led by a licensed guide, specialized in recreational mountain activities. "Eco-family" (main office) will coordinate all the activities. Passengers will be assisted by our local guides and during the different outings by reliable shelter and hostel personnel (all of them highly familiarized with our traveling system).

Notes:

· Eco-Family will transfer all camp equipment.
· Eco-Family reserves the right to modify itineraries or suspend activities due to weather conditions or any other justifiable cause whatsoever to preserve passenger safety.
· Previous trekking experience in over 4-hour treks is required to be part of this program

Safety notice:
Medical assistance is NOT included. However, trekking guides do carry basic first aid kit and VHF communication equipment in case any emergency situation arises. Health certificate, issued by a physician who certifies physical fitness is strongly recommended, especially for those with sedentary habits.
