Field trip tour: Lower
Río Manso valley from 8 hs tp20 hs
These
are the topics to be presented and discussed during the field
trip. Basic concepts of some of them have been included in
the introductory talk.
Geological processes and formation of the existing
landscape. Present flora and fauna.
Early settlement in the forest area. Lifestyle,
use of environmental resources. Local native groups: Tehuelches
(Poya, Vuriloches); groups adapted to the lake environment:
Puelche del Nahuel Huapi . Lifestyle and use of environmental
resources.
Rupestrian art of groups that lived in this region.
Styles, techniques. Conception of the world: mythology and
shamanism..
Araucanization process. The mapuche. Lifestyle. Symbolic
productions.Use of plants found in the forest. Medicinal plants.
Aboriginal medicine.
Early western travellers: the Jesuits. Lay explorers
and travellers. Use of the frontier passes -in particular
this Manso route- Moreno and the border conflict.

Disturbance of local ethnic groups. Campaña del Desierto
(The Conquest of the Desert).
First white men settlements after the conquest.
Creation of National Parks.
Current situation of the descendants of local natives.
Their relationship with the environment. .

Villegas Park Ranger's office. Cultural syncretism: a
rupestrian art site and a place nowadays used for worship
(Ceferino's Hermitage).
Cañadón de la Mosca.

Rupestrian art site
Asado (typical Argentine barbeque) or picnic lunch at Manso's
riverside or in a quincho (typical roofed facility for asado),
before or after the visit to the rupestrian art site.
